On Delron’s trip to the Congo in 2023, he visited a friend of his who, after completing medical school, had taken the challenge of running an underfunded and ill-equipped hospital in a remote area of the country.  As he was touring the grounds, Delron noticed a group of pregnant women camping on the lawn.  The doctor explained that the women have no way of knowing exactly how far along they are in their pregnancies; so, they come early and wait to avoid having to travel over the rough terrain while in labor.  With that explanation, Teach All Nations made the decision to buy the hospital a portable ultrasound machine that the doctor could take to the villages and check the women so he could tell them when they needed to come to him for their deliveries.  The following year, Peggy delivered the machine and asked if she could witness its first use.  As she watched the ultrasound as I held the baby’s mother head up so she could see the baby’s image on the screen, Peggy could tell there was little movement.  When the doctor analyzed what he was seeing on the screen, he realized that there were complications that required an emergency C-section.  After the operation, the doctor told Peggy that the baby would have died if they had not examined the mother with the new ultrasound machine.  On the very first time that the equipment was used, a life was saved!

Since Teach All Nations was already working on equipping the clinic in Liberia, we offered to help Redeeming Love Ministries, a very close partner with Teach All Nations, to also get equipment for this clinic.  Through the generosity of some of our donors and the supporters of Redeeming Love Ministries, we were able to have a full container of equipment and supplies shipped and delivered to the clinic.

In the meantime, a war broke out in the area, and death threats were issued against the doctor because he treated anyone who was injured, regardless of whether he was a rebel or a loyalist.  Unfortunately, there was an accident as it was being hauled between the port of delivery and the Congo border.  Even though the truck towing the container rolled over and the driver was killed, the supplies inside the container were not damaged.  Praise God, the container arrived safely in the Congo and was safely transported to the clinic – even in the midst of the fighting.  Additionally, the doctor’s life was spared – even though he had to make open public appearances in opening the clinic.  The report that we have received from the people in the area is that they have never seen such advanced medical equipment and that they can’t believe that they received all this for free!
