The Christmas service began with Feliz Navidad, but it wasn’t in Latin America – it was in Myanmar! Delron and Peggy had been invited to minister over ZOOM in the Christmas morning service hosted by the church that Teach All Nations works with in Yangon. COVID restrictions prohibited a public gathering, but the congregation joined in via internet across the city and even as far away as Malaysia. Opening with a Spanish song and followed by a sermon in English that had to be translated into Burmese, the ZOOM call made us realize that Walt Disney was right when he said, “It’s a small world after all.” In addition, Delron gave an even more international flavor when he likened the three gifts of the wise men to the three Greek words used for “life” in the New Testament – gold being the financial resources to sustain physical life (bios); frankincense being a perfume that, before the invention of deodorant, made personal interaction more pleasant and, therefore, promoted mental and emotional wellbeing (psuche); and myrrh being an embalming agent which spoke of Jesus’ death that made it possible for us to have spiritual life (zoe).
